Gas Release and Flare on July 20, 2020
The Town of Dish contacted Atmos Energy concerning the gas release and flare on July 20, 2020. We asked why no notification, of the event, was provided to the Town and our residents.
We received the following response from the Manager of Public Affairs:
“The work that occurred on Monday night was unscheduled/unplanned pipeline repairs that ran longer than expected. They originally expected the flaring to occur from 6:00pm – 10:00pm, but some unexpected delays caused the flare to begin later. We did contact Denton County dispatch and informed them of the work prior to our anticipated 6:00pm start. We also reach out to them again around 9:00pm to provide the updated start time. The repairs required us to release gas to lower the pressure in the line. A flare or venting into the atmosphere both cause a loud noise while the gas is being released. The flare option prevents the community from possibly smelling odor in the air. I apologize for the inconvenience this caused the town and local residents.”
The Town has requested Atmos Energy to provide notice of any future events, scheduled or unscheduled.
These notices will be posted on our website and emailed out to our contact list.
